In 2001, severe floods fell upon eight counties in Virginia and West Virginia leaving thousands of families homeless. As a result of the devastation, a flood relief operations center was established for victims to obtain emergency supplies free-of-charge. The center was set up in a former Save-A-Lot building in Kimball, West Virginia. |

Within a year, excessive rain blanketed the area once again leaving countless people in need of food, clothing and other staple items. Many individuals and groups from local and regional churches, civic organizations, companies and the military donated supplies and volunteered to distribute the donations to the flood victims. As a result of the continuing need, the flood relief center became a centralized location of food distribution in Kimball, WV. |
The floods destroyed many homes cutting some in half and completely washing others away. The recovery has been long and hard, many elderly men and woman lost all they had, Homes, cars, bridges and priceless air looms. After working many years to have a home and finally getting it paid for and just starting retirement, only to loose everything. Starting over when you get 65 years old is almost impossible. Only because of God are they able to start over, the many gifts of furniture, appliances, mobile homes and the help of friends and the community and those in other states who came and help, make it possible.
